longarm Machine Classroom
Class Enrollment requires a one-time $30 Registration Fee.
This fee is required by each student to register for classes. Spool School is the only exception to the $30 Registration Fee.Your seat in each class will be reserved upon verification of the $30 Registration Fee paid. 

Deadline to register is April 21st, 2018 at midnight MST. After April 21st, you can still register on-line with a $15 late fee. Please be sure to use the same name, email and phone number when you register. Classes may be added at the show, if they are still available with the $15 Late Registration Fee.To avoid long lines and the Late Fee, register now!

All Registered Class Attendees will receive:
Three‐day Show Admission Badge ($36 value)
2018 Attendee Show Bag ($10 value).

There are two ways to find classes, choose the one that works best for you!

1- The Class Schedule (below) gives you an overview of the classes sorted by the day they are taught.  To view class details simply click on the class titles.  To learn more about the Teacher, simply click on their name.
2- The Classes page is organized by category, and is a visual overview of each class.  Here you can click on the class title to view the details of the class. 

Show Bag is included with Class Registration. Please note that class sizes are limited and are filled on a "first come, first served" basis. The class size is firm and cannot be adjusted.

Cancellation Policy 

~The one-time registration fee is not refundable or transferable~

UQSM cancellation policy will offer everyone a refund based off both the date they registered along with the proximity of time to May 1st, 2018, the first day of classes. Review the rates below.

**Cancellation Policy is subject to change without notice. The Utah Quilting & Sewing Marketplace team will review situations that are not addressed by our cancellation policy.

 

 





Refund Rates

- Within 10 days of registering except after Wednesday, April 11, 2018…100% of class fees paid
- Before Monday, January 1, 2018…75% of class fees paid
- Before Wednesday, February 28, 2018...50% of class fees paid
- Before Thursday April 21, 2018…25% of class fees paid

- No refunds will be issued after April 21, 2018. NO exceptions under any circumstances. 

-Registrations made after Wednesday, April 11, 2018 will not qualify for a refund if canceled after 10 days.

Please remember the dates for refunds and cancellations.


Transferring to a new class:

If an attendee would like to transfer from one class to another there will be a $5 transfer fee. If the class, which the attendee is transferring to, is more than the class transferring from, the attendee will be responsible for the difference in price in addition to the $5 transfer fee.  If the opposite occurs, a refund will be given minus the $5 transfer fee.  The registration date is the earliest date of the transaction - not the date of the transfer.






 

Refunds at the Show:

Utah Quilting & Sewing Marketplace will not allow any refunds after the cancellation date.  If you are dissatisfied with a class, please email us no later than three hours after the class is finished. You will be contacted about your class experience after the conclusion of the show.

Would you like to be an Instructor Aide?

 What an Instructor Aide does:

  • Take attendance in class using our class roster sheet and bring to the Registration Desk at the end of class.
  • Help teacher hand out class information before class starts.
  • If someone is in class who is not on the roster sheet and does not have a printed receipt, please send them to the registration desk where we can help them.
  • Handout the teacher survey at the beginning of class and collect them at the end.

A Thank You gift is given to every Instructor Aide.

With just a few tips, no tools and a little practice using a "hands-on sample" we provide, you will be making perfectly mitered corners every time. Class covers strip binding, bias binding (how to make continuous bias binding and how/when to use it), prairie points, quick ruffles and more ~ we cover it all. Come learn tips and tricks about swirls, feathers and pebbles also how to mix them in the same quilt and how to add texture and control the visual impact in your work!

Domestic Machine Hands On All Levels This class will focus on increasing your quilting design options through a series of lessons. I will demonstrate for you how to make circles, spirals, feathers, teacups, curve crosshatching, mums and much more. We will practice designs on paper and then make samples of these designs in class. We will also learn the technique of color and shadow trapunto and make a small quilt in class. This class will open your eyes to many new possibilities for you to quilt on your domestic machine. Domestic Machine Hands On Confident Beginner and Intermediate In this class, students will learn to expand their free motion quilting skills on the domestic sewing machine. Swan will focus on using the three basic elements of free motion (lines, curves, and circles) to build a variety of designs.

Domestic Machine Hands On Intermediate and Advanced This class is a beautiful follow up to Swan’s Organic Machine Quilting class. Building on the skills students have already gained with making a variety of quilting shapes, students learn the how to break up a quilting space and use foundational elements to create quilting frameworks.

Domestic Machine Hands On Beginner and Intermediate This class sampler is a 15" x 15" panel of my quilt Amsterdam View. It is an original design quilt and was part of the international quilt festival Houston in 2016. We play with fundamental shapes to develop free-motion quilting skills and also how to fill the different areas in your quilt as you go.

Domestic Machine Hands On Beginner Is your stack of unfinished quilt tops piling up just waiting to be quilted. Then this class is for you. This is a fun filled class where I will teach you all the basic techniques to domestic machine quilting. We will have some discussion on supplies, thread, needles, and batting. In class we will learn the basic elements of machine quilting through a series of lessons such as a variety of background fills, trapunto, feathers, circles, spirals, crosshatching, and many other elements. You will become proficient as we learn the many options available to beautify your quilts and make them your own. We will be making samples that will go into a binder for your reference as you design your quilts.

This class sampler is a 16" x 16" panel of my quilt Spring Labryinth, an original design quilt. We play with fundamental shapes to develop free-motion quilting skills and also how to fill the different areas in your quilt as you go with a modern twist.

Domestic Machine Hands On Intermediate and Advanced In this class we will learn the time honored craft of trapunto. Trapunto gives your quilts texture and dimension. Come learn how easy it is to accomplish this method in your quilts. We will make a small quilt in class and learn about the wonderful world of whole cloth quilts and how you can design your own.

Longarm Lecture Demo Beginner Want to make feathers but don't know where to start? Have Deborah, a feather master, help you break the barrier. Deborah's feathers are one of the main reasons Kim Diehl chose her as her personal quilter. If you are comfortable at the back of the machine and have good control while following a panto, you can feather. In this class for beginners, Deborah will help Students gain confidence at the front of the machine and finally make those feathers they have been craving. Students will learn basic feather anatomy as well as many friendly styles of feathers with no backtracking.

Longarm Lecture Demo All Levels Are you new to longarming or been at it a while and still have a hard time deciding where to start and stop stitching? Let Deborah cure your confusion. In this class Deborah will show you several styles of continuous curve stitching designs that will make pieced blocks pop. She will also show you how to have only one start and one stop, eliminating those pesky tie-offs. You will begin with a simple 9-patch, advancing to more intricate pieced blocks and finishing with a feathered wreath. She will also walk you through making all of your sashings with one start and one stop.

Longarm Hands On Beginner and Intermediate Anything you can draw, doodle, or trace, you can quilt! In this class we'll talk about where to find ideas for your quilting, how to quilt your drawings and what to do with these art pieces.

Longarm Lecture Demo All Levels Curing Continuous Confusion Level 1 is not required for this class. In this class, Deborah will show you several styles of continuous curve stitching designs that will make pieced blocks pop. She will then show you how to morph those designs into awesome motifs for large setting blocks. Then she will show you how to do several complicated motifs, all of which will be accomplished with only one start and one stop, eliminating those pesky tie-offs. PLEASE NOTE: the techniques in level 1 and level 2 of this class are friendly to both LA'er and Domestic machine quilters alike.

This class is for beginning or experienced quilters who want to learn tips and practice skills that will improve their quilting stitch, and let them enjoy the process! This class covers all aspects of hand quilting: Batting selection and testing Quilting Patterns and design Marking options Learning and practicing the best stitch for you needles, hoops, and threads.
